Talking to children about
recent tragic events:
Our hearts go out to the
families and friends of
those who lost loved
ones in the collapse of
the I-35 bridge in
Minneapolis on August 1.
We hope for the rapid
recovery of those
injured in this tragedy
and for the safety and
well-being of the brave
workers involved in the
current recovery efforts
and those who will
eventually rebuild the
structure. We wish for
the healing over time of
our entire community
after this terrible
loss.
Children of all ages are
sensitive to crisis and
need our help to feel
more secure. They need
reassurance that
parents/guardians will
help keep them safe and
well cared for, and that
people in the community
are working to do the
same. They might need
to talk and be listened
to. They need familiar
routines and extra
affection. They need to
hear that you and other
caring adults are doing
positive things to help.
They need TV exposure
limited.
